Falmouth Road Race 2010 Information

In 2010 The Falmouth Road Race lands on Sunday August 15. The 38th annual race begins in Woodhole MA and runs along the coast and through Falmouth Heights.
The race is very popular among locals and many of them run every year. The professional racers start at 10 AM. THE NEW RACE HEADQUARTERS IS AT FALMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL, 874 Gifford Street, Falmouth. From I-495, go over the Bourne Bridge, follow Route 28 south toward Falmouth. Exit Route 28 at Brick Kiln Road. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp and stay on Brick Kiln Road for about one mile to the first traffic light (Gifford Street). Turn left at this light. The high school driveway will be about 300 yards ahead on the left.
From the Mid-Cape and other points east: follow Route 28 to the Mashpee Rotary; take Route 151 to traffic light at Sandwich Road; turn left onto Sandwich Road and follow it to the next traffic light at the intersection with Brick Kiln Road; turn right onto Brick Kiln Road and follow it to the next traffic light and turn right; the high school driveway will be about 300 yards ahead on the left.

ADDITIONAL START CORRAL: The last corral will be divided into two to alleviate the congestion at the start and help the flow of runners.
NEW BALANCE HIGH SCHOOL MILE: On Saturday, August 14, the first invitational race for high school-age boys and girls who reside on Cape Cod will be held. Participants have been selected by a committee of high school coaches. The New Balance girls’ race will start at 5:50 p.m. and the boys’ race will start at the completion of the girls’ race. The traditional CIGNA Falmouth Invitational Mile will start with the women running at 6:15 p.m. and the men at 6:30. All miles, H.S. and Invitational will take place on the James Kalperis Track at Falmouth High School. The track is located right behind the field house where the race numbers are picked up.

If you attend the Falmouth Road Race be sure to check out the area. The Shinning Sea Bike Path runs from Woodshole to North Falmouth at Rt28a and RT151. It can be a great way to avoide traffic. The bike path runs behind several business's and parking areas along RT28a.

Just a few day before Christmas 2009 Cape Cod was hammered by a blizzard that blew from the Northeast. That always makes for winy conditions with heavy snow drifts.
Snow Removal around the area takes on a life of its own. People from all aspects of life get involved. In almost every neighborhood a group of local get together and go door to door looking for snow removal jobs.
The trick to finding someone to help dig you out is two fold. One make sure your house looks like you are home. Leave a outside light on and try to make the front look approachable. Second is be patient. Most people who want to go out a shovel snow wait for a storm to stop. Once this storm subsides those seeking the work will be out.
Some tips if you live in a area not visited by local teens or tradesmen is Craigslist. Many companies and individuals post ads on the website. CL has a page for just about every area in the USA.
If you can't find people who are looking for work post a help wanted ad on CL.
Use Twitter. Simply do a search for Snow Removal Service + Your Area. You will find services in your area. Send them a direct message and send a @ to them. It works!
Snow Storms on Cape Cod can be the most wonderful thing if you take a positive stance. It may seem rarer but it really isn't. The Cape and Islands get some severer weather all times and season.

The widow of Sen. Edward Kennedy is selling the home she and her late husband shared in the Kalorama neighborhood and is moving nearby to a smaller three-bedroom house. Selling agent Jim Bell said Friday the purchase price was $1.65 million. A Kennedy spokeswoman says the move will have no impact on the family compound on Cape Cod. Vicki Kennedy continues to live on and off at the seaside home, most recently over the Thanksgiving holiday. Edward Kennedy died Aug. 25 of brain cancer after a nearly 47-year congressional career. A special election to permanently fill his seat is scheduled for Jan. 19. Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown won their respective party nominations this week.

I have put the picture of the Nantucket Light Ship of of the Compound. Though it would be nice for all to see.

Sept 14 2009. Less than a month after his death Ted Kennedy's Memoirs are released.
Ted was our friend a neihbor. He lived less than one mile from my home in Hyannis. We would see him driving around in his Chevell. We would drink with him at Bud's Country Lounge back in the day.
Ted was a good man. He would treat everyone the same and not judge people.

Well he's gone and the book is out that's the reality. Here's what Amazon says.

Summer 2009 Ends With Sharks Off Cape Cod

What a end to Summer 2009 on Cape Cod. Sharks brought more visitors than the beaches did.
The South Side Beaches in Chatham had to be closed because of White Sharks. That's right. JAWS was here in 09.
The seal population off the coast has grown. It would appear the sharks are in the area for a easy meal.
Cape Cod has not has a human vs shark encounter since 1936.
Scientist where able to tag 3 sharks off The Cape over Memorial Day Holiday and the days after. Certainly a good time for the study of Great White Sharks.
Shark fishing in the waters off New England have always been good. One of the largest Shark Tournaments use to be held in Hyannis.

Mosquito Warning For Cape Cod

June 2009 was a rainy month for the all on New England. With moisture comes mosquito's. The nasty bug has been a concern to humans for 1000's of years.
With the heavy June rain and budget cuts Cape Cod Mosquito control agencies are issuing warnings for the insect.
The Mosquito can carry deadly disease. Yellow Fever & Dengue Fever make people very sick and has killed millions of people around the world. In New England Eastern Equine Encephalitis a Mosquito-transmitted viral diseases causing brain inflammation/encephalitis and West Nile Virus are the biggest concern.
The most well known outbreak of mosquito born disease happened during the construction of the Panama Canal. The entire project was shut down do to the pest.
Things you can do:
Remove Standing Water on your property.
Wear long pants and long sleeve shirts
Stay indoors during dawn and dusk
Wear mosquito repellent

Sun Rise On Mashpee Cape Cod

Cape Cod has the most wonderful sun rise and sunsets in the world.
5am on a Sunday morning at the Pirates Cove landing in Mashpee on Cape Cod.
This is what visitors can expect when visiting the cape and Islands.
People always think of traffic when they think of Cape Cod, but you can avoid most of it by not traveling during peak times.
Early Spring until July 4 and after Labor Day are the best times to visit traffic wise. If your the parting type the 4TH of July until Labor Day is the best time to be hare.
